Have you ever been singing a praise and worship song or a hymn and found yourself just singing along because you know the words? Have you read a passage in the Bible that exclaims God’s glory, yet find that it doesn’t excite you as it should? Maybe I shouldn’t claim that we have all been there, but I can say, if this is you, you’re not alone.

Call it spiritual fatigue. Call it sin interference. Call it spiritual immaturity. Whatever you call it there is only one cure. Get closer to Jesus. Focus on Him. Meditate on Scripture. Read the hymns or praise and worship music, and let it fill your soul. We have to receive from God as much as we give. We have to allow worship to be an interaction between God and us. If we don’t, then we will  grow fatigued, and have to hit the autopilot.

God wants us. He wants all of us. He doesn’t want a bunch of empty words. He doesn’t want some mindless slave. He wants us. He doesn’t look at us and say “well, I will take you when your life is drama-free”. He wants us. The whole package. He wants us because He loves us.

I have heard it preached that Christ and the gospel are the pearl of great price. I see it that way but perhaps we can see a bit of God’s love if we see that Jesus left all His riches to come to earth. He paid the highest cost imaginable. And for what? For you and I. I believe Jesus was relating a message to His Bride to be, “You are my pearl of great price”. It was a price He was willing to pay. Somehow, when I look into the Love He has shown me, I am no longer fatigued, I don’t want autopilot, I want Christ. I want to experience true worship with the King of Kings. I want to sing:

Maybe you have a different song that helps you express how great God is. I challenge you: read it over three times, sing it through at least three times or more, then read a familiar passage like John 1 or Genesis 1 or Psalm 19. He wants to have a relationship with us. He doesn’t want autopilot Christians. Search with all you are for Him, and you will find Him. He is not hidden, but He does care if you’re all in.
